Our Roster of Creators

Finally, the roster of creators for CORPUS is finalized! Check out the enormous amount of talent which will grace our pages coming 2018!

Hello Everyone,

CORPUS: A Comic Anthology of Bodily Ailments is a collection of stories about physical illness, mental illness, and medical experiences. Before I announce the creators, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who submitted, retweeted, spread the word, or even took a second to think about this project. I received nearly 200 submissions, all of which were incredible, and the selection process was practically impossible. To sift through your moving stories and visions and not chose them all was a Herculean task, and I want you to know I admire you, for your courage, your talent, and for taking a chance on CORPUS. For everyone who was not selected, know it’s not because your story or perspective is invalid, its purely because of space.

The sheer number of you told me that this is so much bigger than this one book. We are at the very beginning of our journey here at CORPUS, and I hope that we receive enough support to tell the industry that this is content we want to see. With your help, I want to tell the world, sickness is universal, and access to healthcare should be the same. I want to tell the world that sick people like me are human and deserving of so much more. Now more than ever, we need these stories.

CORPUS: A Comic Anthology of Bodily Ailments

Submission Guidelines

CORPUS: A COMIC ANTHOLOGY OF BODILY AILMENTS is an anthology about illness, in any form. Everyone’s been sick at some point, some for short periods, some for their entire lives. We are all united by the fact that we navigate the world with our bodies, and it deeply affects the way we exist. Everyone has a story. As a type 1 diabetic, I’ve always been interested in the experiences of others with sickness. My body is unique, yet like everyone else’s. My mode of functioning is different than others, yet completely normal to me.

Stories have the power to spark empathy. These stories of illness connect us, remove the fear of the disabled and the unknown. Inspiration can be found in knowing that others have gone through difficult health issues. Telling stories like this helps alleviate stigma and fear of the unknown. It allows us to humanize those who are disabled in any way, instead of coldly viewing others as burdens on society. After all, health is a funny thing like that. Most don’t really think about their own health until it’s compromised.

With our current political climate, we need to share tales about sickness, health, and healthcare experiences. Bodily ailments are universal, whether they occur in our minds or limbs, whether they are chronic diseases or a 24 hour bug. I’m looking for any story regarding a medical experience or a mental or physical ailment. These stories can be fictional or autobiographical.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Pitches for short comics (between 2-10 pages) that are thematically centered on physical or mental illness. It can also be about experiences in healthcare. It can be a short piece of fiction or an autobiographical comic.

  • Deadline for pitches is NOVEMBER 22ND, 2017

A Note on the Project: If your submission is chosen, you have no obligation to start or complete or your part until after the Kickstarter, as the feasibility of this project coming together depends on the success of the Kickstarter.
